J. W. & Sandi Baker of Wolf Song Studio relate their experiences with the "Infinity 2-in-1"

An example of Wearable Art created with the Infinity 2-in-1

Recently I had the opportunity to use the new Harder & Steenbeck “Infinity Two-in-One” airbrush - in all honesty I have to say I wasn’t prepared for it to be as good as it is! Anytime I’ve tried something new or different from what I’m used to using, I find that I rate its faults or virtues by comparison to what I already own - being as good as it is, this brush deserves to be viewed as a totally unique experience.

From the onset it is a positive experience - the packaging is a very simple, yet it makes for a very elegant presentation and also serves as a good storage box when the airbrush is not in use. The “Two-in-One” by virtue of it’s name comes with two separate combinations of needle & nozzle - a 0.15 mm needle/nozzle and 0.40 mm needle/nozzle. Mine came with the 0.15 mm combination installed and what appears to be a rather unique needle cap.

Personally, I have never been a big fan of working with the needle cap on, even though I’ve bent more than a tip or two in my time. The needle cap on the “Two-in-One” slips on and off by friction and for me was a bit difficult to get off, but I would like to think this is as is intended, because in deciding to leave it on, I found I felt more comfortable working closer to my work with not having to worry about bending the tip, AND due to the caps unique design, it was actually quite easy to see the tip of the needle (my whole purpose in originally removing needle caps in the first place). Again, I’d like to think the design & engineering of this needle cap is such that the concave nature of the cap actually helps to facilitate removing any tip drying with your fingers while at the same time preventing you from accidently bending the finer tip.

Also included was another needle cap of a different nature - a sort of “halo” which slides on and off easily and serves in the capacity of a guide that can be used for creating straight lines by bracing against a ruler or some other straight edge or aide.

The nozzle and nozzle cap set is very nicely designed as well - the nozzle cap has a knurled outer edge that makes removing the cap easy, and can be done with simple finger pressure and no special tools - nice. I like the way the needle packing is integrated into the back of the nozzle itself. Switching out the needles & nozzles is a breeze.

The trigger is VERY nice - it has a good, easy feel to it and I’m not quite sure how this is accomplished mechanically, but the action and design of the trigger seem to lead one into an intuitive practice of applying air before paint which helps you render the type of lines you want without having to fight your brush. The trigger resistance is easily adjustable to fit your own personal tastes with regard to how “loose” or “tight” you prefer your trigger to feel.

The “Two-in-One” comes with two easily interchangeable color cups - a nice feature that also gives you the addition benefit of allowing for a truly thorough cleaning when the cup is removed. You have greater access to inspect the airbrush internally for any possible paint build-up.

The “Quick Fix” handle is also a useful feature - the handle allows you the ability to regulate the amount of paint you release into the air stream. This is accomplished by the push of a button dial located at the back of the brush which restricts the range of movement for the trigger resulting in continuous fine line detail.

As a total package I have to say this is an excellent bargain for the money - a well engineered airbrush, with lots of amenities for a very fair price. The 0.15 mm setup created fine line detail that equaled, if not surpassed my Micron. As an Illustrators airbrush with the corresponding paints to work with finer nozzles, this is one awesome airbrush AND you also have the capacity with the 0.40 mm needle/nozzle combination to create superior Textile/Wearable Art with the thicker viscosity paints. Two great brushes in ONE box.

For an Artist on a budget who needed to be able to work across a full range of venues from Automotive or Fine Art, to Textile/Wearable Art, this airbrush would be a best buy. Given the easy interchange of needles and nozzles and a full range of accessories, this would be an ideal brush to buy where you’re looking for a bargain, because you would end up getting far more for your money than you had hoped for! That’s a rare thing in todays market.

I am VERY impressed by this airbrush.

"ARCTIC PAIR" by Sandi Baker
An example of artwork created with the Infinity 2-in-1

I finally managed some free time to test it out, and I found that this brush is superb. I started out with the 0.2 nozzle and just couldn't get the ''feel'' for it, though I experimented with it for a while and found I could get incredibly fine lines, I just couldn't find the 'engaging point' - user error I suspect. I was anxious to start a painting so I just tried the 0.4 nozzle instead. I thought I could just make the best out of the larger assembly instead of trying to discover what was hampering the 0.2. With the 0.4 in place I began pulling a few practice lines and found myself standing back in complete shock. What I was seeing could not be possible. The lines I could get with the 0.4 were hairline. Just as small as anything I could do with the 0.2!

I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but after trying the same line width over and over I was convinced. I described what I was experiencing to J W who was working on the other side of the studio, and he just smiled and said ''I know...that's what I was telling you!'' I've been airbrushing for 18 years and I have never seen an assembly that large pull consistently fine lines like that. After experimenting for a time I began my painting. I used the Infinity and absolutely loved working with it. The features are a dream! It performed beautifully and did absolutely everything that I needed it to do with an effortless consistency. I am extremely impressed with this airbrush, and would definitely recommend it to anyone. I also think that this brush would be ideal for beginning airbrushers because it is so easy to use and leaves lots of room to grow as the user progresses. The 'Halo' needle guard would force the user to stay perpendicular to the surface reinforcing good airbrush habits before bad ones can be formed - an ingenious invention! I've attached a photo of the painting created with your airbrush. It is acrylics on panel.
